Are you expecting a little bundle of joy to make its debut in your home? Congratulations! Creating the right space at home for a newborn can be a bit stressful. If this is the first time you’re planning to prepare your home for an additional family member, you may be experiencing a little confusion or even panic about where to start. But that is entirely normal.
You may have spent previous months preparing a little nursery in your home – getting together everything your little angel will need. But there’s still more to do. So, what else should you do to get your home ready? Here are a few tips.
Make room for the baby
This point sounds pretty obvious. But if you’ve been purchasing baby stuff over the months in anticipation of the little new-comer, then you should know by now that these tiny creatures require a lot of things – and a lot of space. Start by making space around your home to accommodate bouncy chairs, playpen, and other toys. Next, reorganise your kitchen shelves. You might have to get rid of some pantry to make room for baby food, bib, baby cups, etc. Finally, organise your closets to make space for baby towels, blankets, clothes, bathing supplies, diapers, etc. You can hire experts like Yes I Can to help you with the right kitchen renovations.
Prepare your guest room
From well-wishers to excited friends and family members, you can expect your home to be very busy with guests – invited and uninvited. So, take the time to prepare your guest room for those who might need to stay over after visiting. Also, make extra space available to store all the goodies and gifts you may receive from your guest. You will also need some assistance from a family member to raise your little one. And that means they will have to move in with you for a period.
Clean your home
Cleaning your home is another point that may sound obvious, but it goes without saying. Deep clean your home and make sure you get all the needed repair works done. If you have problems with moulds or any other thing that can put your baby’s health at risk, you should get rid of those immediately. Get rid of dust in your home during your pregnancy, as it goes hand-in-hand with stubborn allergies. Also, target the red zones in your home as far as germs are concerned. Surfaces like doorknobs and switches usually carry many germs. Also, ensure that you keep sanitising wipes at vantage areas in your home to help make cleaning easier.
Light up your home
Start looking for dimmer lights or lights with soft ambience for parts of your home, especially areas where your baby will spend a lot of time. Also, place night lights in your bedroom as well as your baby’s room. Doing this will make it possible to feed your little one at night without worrying about exposing those tiny and delicate eyes to harsh lights, which will make it difficult for them to go back to sleep. Although you may consider turning off the lights completely, having a dim light source makes it easier to attend to your midnight duties without turning on bright lights.
