Hi everyone,
It’s our daughter Zara’a FIFTH birthday this month. I honestly can’t believe we are going to have a five year old little girl. I remember people saying how time goes so incredibly fast once you have children and boy were they right about that. It only feels like yesterday we were anxiously waiting for the arrival of our precious rainbow baby. She certainly kept us waiting – we were in hospital from Saturday until Tuesday when she was finally born. The most magical moment of my life being handed my little baby she was alive and healthy and it was the most amazing feeling.
Shes had a bit of rubbish time recently, much like a lot of children (not being able to go anywhere or go to school really does take its toll) and I want to make sure she has a birthday to remember. I thought I would make a gift guide in case others may be stuck for present ideas for their little ones. Zara wants everything. I can’t count how many things she said she would like but these are my top picks.
*Disclaimer – This is a collaborative blog post, some of the items mentioned have been gifted to us*
Rydale Puddle Suit – This absolutely gorgeous puddle suit is going to come in so handy for those rainy days. As we all know, British summertime is very temperamental! Zara loves splashing in puddles and has even been known to make her own just to splash in. There are so many lovely prints to choose from. I chose this one in bumble bee blue as I think it’s adorable. What I like about it is that it’s fully waterproof but also breathable. In the colder weather she could wear a cardigan or a jumper underneath for warmth or wear it just over a T-shirt during the summer. It features reflective high vis piping on the outer edges too which is brilliant. Available for £25.
Uh Oh Milo Books – Have fun alongside Milo, Mary and their magical Granny as they are confronted by some of these playful, surprise visitors and find out what happens when Granny uses her magical powers to persuade them to change their mischievous ways! You can get all 3 books for £18. Zara will definitely enjoy getting stuck into these. She loves to cuddle up to me in bed and be whisked away to another place listening to stories.
Willow & Weeds Art Activity Colouring Book – Now these are absolutely beautiful, so much effort has gone into them, it’s addressed to your little one too which I think is lovely.
The colouring in pages are all purposefully detailed…to provide maximum opportunity for kids to get really into it…and for parents to get a wee cuppa in peace or join in and enjoy the process. There’s also a page with some ideas to extend the colouring in activities…sometimes with some sneaky learning added in!
The art activity is usually accompanied by a how-to tutorial video on YouTube for kids to follow along, although the full instructions are in the booklet too. Available as a booklet or as a digital download.
Personalised Superhero T-shirt from Personalised Gifts Market – I absolutely adore this T-shirt for Zara, she’s really into superheroes at the moment and will often tie up her blanket around her, ready to save the world! Available for £16.99 and you can choose from many designs including pirates, princesses, racing cars, unicorns and mermaids. They also have a whole range of personalised goodies which would make the perfect gift.
Castaway Cottage Bath Products. This wonderful family run company sell hand crafted bath bombs, soaps, bath crumbles, wax melts, burners and hand crocheted cotton face clothes. I’ve fallen in love with their products already and Zara loves a good bath bomb just as much as her mama so she will be so pleased with what she’s received. Rhubarb and custard scented bath bomb and crumble. We’ve also got strawberry scented bath crumble and a heart shaped bath bomb. Their founder is Archie who is 12 years old! Absolutely adorable and a percentage of profit from their bespoke boxes goes to a charity that help families with autism. These products came beautifully packaged in a box with a cute pink bow wrapped around it.
Mini Black Doll in Pink from Black Chibis this is the perfect size little dolly to carry around and play with. This shop sells inexpensive black toys for little boys and girls and this is something I think is very important especially in light of #BlackLivesMatter. This is available for £5 and she’s so cute! There are lots of dolls available on the website and they also do mystery boxes!
Mermaid in England Colour change swim wear – I think this is so magical so I can only imagine how Zara will react when she realises that this swimsuit changes colour! It changes from a shimmery white to rainbow when it’s in contact with water. It’s made from high quality Italian Lycra and used double layered fabric for extra protection from the sun. Available for £30. They also have the same swim wear but in a mermaid print which changes from an aqua blue to having mermaid scales in the water.
Phlat Ball – Well this one that Zara has been asking for, ever since she had seen an advert for it on the tv! Is it a ball? Is it a disc? It’s the Phlat Ball! Handy to take with you, great to play with! Throw a disc and catch a ball! Press the bottom and the lid tightly together and your phlat ball is flat! After a few seconds, the phlat ball automatically jumps back into the shape of a ball!
Asda Toy Supermarket checkout – Zara loves to role play shops with mummy, daddy and her sister Zayah. We often play and pretend we are giving each other money for our items and she has so much fun.
With a functional cash register and beeping scanner, this ASDA supermarket checkout is a fun way to get your little one’s imaginative skills into play. Featuring shelving areas for food, it also comes with a credit card and reader, as well as paper money and plastic coins so they can make pretend payments at the checkout.
• Includes: Credit card and reader, cash register, beeping scanner, paper bills, plastic coins, 16 food pieces and 2 paper bags
Minnie Mouse All in One Pyjamas – Zara has two similar pairs of pyjamas to these in a Micky Mouse and Hello Kitty print and they are her absolute favourite. So when I saw these on eBay I just had to buy them! I paid £7.99 for one and £6.95 for another – bargain!
Fisher-Price Dough Dot 4oz Cube Box Set 8 Pack – Zara loves play dough so I thought this would be a lovely little extra gift for her! It comes with 8 colours and you can use the spheres to cut the dough with. Each dough container has a different animals face on which can be pressed onto the dough for extra fun. I managed to grab this in TK Maxx for just £6 – I can’t see this online on their website but have found it on Very for £9.99.
Keyboard Piano from Amazon – Zara loves to make music and so my mum has bought this for her birthday – she’s going to be so happy! I had a similar keyboard when I was Zaras age and mum and dad had to spend hours listening to my musical masterpieces! The Rock Jam RJ549 is a portable compact 49 key piano keyboard that despite it’s size is packed full of functions. Featuring 10 instruments, 10 Rhythms, 8 Demos, 8 Percussion/drum effects and including vibrato and sustain effects this small little package really contains everything you need. £34.99
I’ve also bought Zara a few other bits and pieces such as a Toy Story Hooded Poncho Towel, Frozen 2 Book, and Toy Story Book from Aldi which isn’t available anymore and a rainbow nail polish set from Primark which I can’t seem to find online. I’m sure I’ve bought some little things over the course of the past few months that I’ve forgotten about too. Zara’s desperate to go to LEGOLAND too so we will get us some tickets to go there soon for her birthday.
Thanks for checking out my gift guide, hopefully it’ll give you some ideas if you have got any 5 year olds birthdays any time soon!

I hope she enjoys her 5th birthday. It really does go quick, my eldest is 14! I love you gift guide, it can be so hard to know what to buy.
