Maths can be a challenging subject for many children and even for their parents; it doesn’t always come naturally to everyone. Nonetheless, you will need to be on hand to help your child with their maths homework from time to time, so it’s worth brushing up on your knowledge. Here are some tips from an independent school in Kent.
It’s worth mentioning that you don’t have to be a maths genius to help your child. Simply incorporating maths into your everyday lives will go a long way to improve their skills.

Many board games, like Monopoly for instance, have an element of maths to them and playing these games will help it become a more enjoyable subject for your child rather than something to be feared. There are also lots of apps and other online resources you can use to get your child to practise maths in an enjoyable way.
Another option is to get your child involved with the cooking from time to time and ask them to measure the ingredients or calculate oven times. Kids usually love getting their hands dirty in the kitchen, particularly if they’re preparing some sugary snacks, so this shouldn’t be too much of a chore.

When your child is doing their homework, it can be easy to just take over sometimes and do it for them. However, this won’t help them learn. Instead, ask them to figure out the answers on their own and show you their sums so that you know how they got the result. This will help you determine where they might have gone wrong.
It might be a good idea to get in touch with your child’s teachers and ask them for some advice on how to help your child with maths. They will be able to share elements of the curriculum with you and how they go about teaching these topics within their lessons. They will also be thrilled to support you on your pursuit to help your child perform well.

These are great tips! Maths is something that a lot of people are scared of so it really helps to put it in everyday life scenarios. I always panic when I’m asked a maths question, yet if the same thing was about ingredients for a recipe or finances for example I’d be fine!
