All of that preparation getting ready for Christmas and now it’s been and gone. We are well into January now but still munching on the Christmas chocolate! Sorry diet.
Christmas this year was very exciting as Zara is fully invested in the magic of Christmas and everything else that comes with it. The closer we got to the actual day, the more exciting and magical it was for us all! We had our first ever year with Elfie the elf who Zayah beheaded about a week before the big day and he magically came back to life again.
We spent many December days (okay we’d already watched all the Santa clause films in November as I couldn’t wait) snuggling up watching Christmas films and we made a ridiculous amount of gingerbread. We watched Zara’s nursery Christmas concert and also spent many times picking up the Christmas tree that Zayah had pulled over because she’s a cheeky sausage!
On Christmas Eve we visited Zachary at the cemetery and brought him his Christmas wreath. It made my heart happy to have all of my babies together. Zara was very excited to visit her big brother and we wished him a merry Christmas.
Then after that did the final FINAL last minute shop to Waitrose with my mum.
The girls loved their Christmas Eve box and they looked ridiculously cute in their Christmas pyjamas from Mumma Marriott. We had a visit from Reubens parents before we started bed time and the girls were walking around with their new unicorn and panda blankets!
Zara’s eyes beamed with excitement as she left out some treats for Santa and his reindeer and went to bed. She’d had a phone call from Mr Clause himself to say that he would be coming soon and she needed to go to bed!
Once the monkeys were asleep bar Zayah waking 1000 times per usual, Reuben and I wrapped up the last remaining presents and got started on the dolls house for Zara which took AGES we were up til god knows what time! Why don’t these things come ready made?!
We were up early on the big day, Zayah was having sleepy feed and Reuben excitedly got out of bed to wake Zara up. She couldn’t wait to find out if Santa had visited us while she was sleeping.

I could hear them from our room, Zara went to check if the mince pie and carrot had been eaten and I could hear her shrieking with excitement when she’d seen Santa had brought her a dolls house.

Reuben made us all French toast with bananas for the girls and bacon and maple syrup for us… yum!
The girls polished it all up which makes a change. Must be the magic of Christmas!
The girls opened their stockings and we had a visit from Nanny (my mum) and we exchanged gifts.
We tried to space out opening all of the presents throughout the day so that the girls (and us) wouldn’t be too overwhelmed with all of the new toys!
Reuben had prepared most of the veg the night before to make it easier for us as we wanted to spend more time with the girls and less time in the kitchen.
Our Christmas dinner was so good but we definitely had hungrier eyes than our bellies… obviously we had room for pudding though!
I was actually so exhausted during the day, probably from worrying for the past week about if I’d forgotten anything / if people will like their gifts/ had we bought the girls enough/ wanting the day to be perfect. Now I wish I hadn’t worried so much as it’s the time that we spent together that matters the most. Reuben works most evenings so it was nice to have him at home with us for a few days. We had the loveliest family day. We ate lots of food, played with the girls and their new toys, snuggled together and watched films. When the girls went to sleep Reuben and I had a couple more drinks and played speak out. My favourite game ever! We were both crying at eachother with laughter! Plus everything is funnier after a couple of gins right?!
The festivities carried on until New Year’s Eve with some Boxing Day sales shopping in between! Now to start preparing for next year!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and new year.
