Zara started nursery for the first time in September and whilst she was so excited to start (she talked about it all the time and always pointed it out when we walked past) it has been a struggle for a while. We’ve been late numerous times where she’s point blank refused to put her shoes on or kept running to the sofa with her blanket and said she was going to sleep and cried all the way down the road on our walk there. She got herself so worked up one day that she got physically sick at nursery.
It’s a huge change for her, for us. For her whole little life so far she’s spent almost every day at home with us. She must have been so confused when we left her there in the company of complete strangers. Both Reuben and I cried when we left her there on her first proper day and we could see how upset she was too. She’s definitely had separation anxiety and she needed even more love and affection, lots of cuddles, always wanting to be next to us.
This huge change has really affected her sleep, at bedtime she would scream the place down absolutely distraught on the verge of throwing up her dinner if we tried to get her to sleep in her own bed and she’s ended up going to sleep on the sofa and we move her when she’s dozed off.
Now it’s nearly the end of November and Zara has most definitely settled in at nursery which is such a relief for us all. She will happily get dressed and get ready to go. She’s become really good at getting dressed by herself too! It’s so lovely hearing how her day has been every time she finishes and seeing how well she gets along with the other children.
She’s usually so busy playing or getting involved in activities that she doesn’t notice us when we come to pick her up and it’s so lovely to see her play with her friends or even by herself in her own little bubble. When she finally clocks that we’re there to pick her up she’s always so excited and if her little sister Zayah isn’t there she asks where her sister is. Zayah always very happy to be reunited with her big sister!
In October the nursery had a Halloween party and when I went to pick Zara up they were all sat around the table listening to music dressed up in their costumes and eating party food and it was honestly the cutest thing ever I thought my heart was going to burst.
I’m over the moon that she’s settled in and is enjoying herself there. Learning even more new things every day. On Tuesdays they learn French 🇫🇷
Zara’s sharing so much better with her sister and her sleep has improved hugely, sleeping in her own bed again 🎉 This mama is also able to get so much done in those few hours she’s not at home and Zayah’s able to have long undisturbed naps!
Currently writing this while she’s snoring her head off in bed. Very proud of our little lady. She can drive me to absolute insanity at times but she’s amazes me every day. Now to tackle potty training!
