Learning about the world is important no matter what you do. Anyone who has ever been traveling will tell you how it completely transformed their worldview, and it provided compassion and education. But, not everyone has the luxury of traveling the world, yet this doesn’t mean you cannot still take the time to learn about different cultures to help you appreciate how those in different countries live. So how can you bring the world into your homeschooling routine? Here are four useful ideas to help out.
Different Displays
You already know that some kids are visual learners, and this is why it’s effective to make the most of colorful and vibrant classroom displays. In a homeschooling environment, you can work together to create or add tropical theme classroom decor that will brighten up the classroom and teach your kids something at the same time.
The fact that it is there for them to look at whenever they come into the classroom or are enjoying some free time means it never leaves their mind, either. This means they are always learning something, even if they are not actively paying attention. The colors and the information will be imprinted.
Themed Weeks
Another great way to bring the world into your classroom routine is through themed weeks. Every week, you can pick a theme out of a hat and follow this until next week. You can increase immersion in this by role-playing, which is effective in all educational environments and can create a more authentic experience.
You can act out historical scenes or pretend to be in another country for an afternoon, and if you have the budget for it, you could even dress up, too.
Songs, Dance, Movies, and More
Many homeschooling parents do not enjoy lecturing their kids all day long, so consider the different types of edutainment that can benefit their education.
Rather than reading from a textbook, songs, dance, movies, and books from all over the world can all provide a more visceral and sometimes visual experience for them to enjoy. It also gives everyone a break from the monotony of the regular classroom routine.
Cooking
If you’re someone who loves to cook, consider looking at recipes from around the world and introducing your kids to them.
No matter what country you’re learning about you’re sure to find recipes that range from the simple to the sensational, and which are always delicious. If your kids are old enough, you can get them involved with the prepping process so they can learn more about different flavors that might be something they have never experienced before.
Learning About the World
Looking at different ways to teach your kids at home is a fantastic way to get them more excited about the world they live in and ensure they are more respectful of other cultures. While they may not have the chance to travel now, you can instill a passion for the planet, and they might decide to follow this passion once they’re old enough to explore the world by themselves.
