Should I send my child to Nursery?

The decision to send your children to nursery is very personal and parents often worry whether or not it is the right choice for their child. For a lot of people, sending their child to nursery is the only viable option should they wish to return to work, however others would argue that the benefits of nursery extend far beyond a practical solution to childcare. Children starting nursery generally wont have spent much time away from family members or close family friends. Although the initial transition period may be tough for both parent and child, it is a substantial first step in the development of their confidence and independence. Children who attend nursery generally adjust to starting school more readily than those who don’t, as they have experienced being away from their primary caregivers and are familiar with being in the care of others. The transition to school may also be made easier for them as they will be acquainted with a learning environment and will have adapted to a routine which is often similar to early primary education. 

Another great benefit of sending your child to nursery is that they will have the opportunity to make friends and develop their social skills. Communicating with other children by participating in group activities and sharing toys is an ideal way for them to polish their developing social skills. Being around other children and engaging in new, exciting activities will encourage shy children to come out of their shell and will teach boisterous children the importance of listening and sharing. Children learn to get along with others and often form friendships that they take with them into primary school, again making this transition seem a little less daunting.
