Hey everyone,
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. These four subjects are an important part of your child’s education because they help to build up a strong foundation of life skills, such as problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking. STEM subjects are also crucial for students because many key industries require graduates with STEM-based qualifications.
Childhood is the perfect time to develop an interest in STEM subjects, by exploring them both at school and within the family home. Read on for some examples, provided by an Independent School in Kingston upon Thames, on how parents can explore STEM subjects within the home.
Board Games
Games are more educational than you might think. Monopoly, for instance, will allow you child to develop their mathematical skills because they will have to add and subtract their money. Puzzles require concentration and problem-solving skills. Board games are also a great way to spend some time together as a family.
Wet Play
There are lots of lessons to learn through water play and this is a great learning method for younger children. You can experiment with different materials and see which ones sink and which ones float, or what happens to certain materials then they are added to water.
Cooking
Cooking is a great way to develop your child’s reading, writing and math skills. Ask your child to read a recipe, write a shopping list and then help you cook a family meal. They will also be able to practice their maths skills when they are measuring out the ingredients.
Outdoor Learning
One of the best ways to teach children about STEM subjects is by involving all of their senses. This can be achieved by taking your learning activities outdoors. Exploring nature can provide many fun learning opportunities, so try to encourage your child to observe their surroundings, weather and wildlife.
Science experiments
Kids are naturally curious and love to experiment, ask questions, and see how things work. Help to stimulate your child’s curiosity by setting up some safe science experiments at home.

Nice Post. Stem Education is a modern way of learning. It is a successful program in UK and USA.
