Hey everyone!
*Period Chat Alert*
I have recently taken the plunge into using reusable and eco friendly sanitary products and I’ve got a review for you today for some reusable cloth sanitary towels from one of my favourite brands Cheeky Wipes.
Disclosure – this is a collaborative post although all opinions are my own!
If you’ve known me or have been following us for a while you will have seen that we used to use cloth nappies and we’ve also used a washable baby wipes kit which was also from Cheeky Wipes. You can read my review for them here!
I try to be a bit more eco friendly wherever I can and I’m not sure why it took me so long to decide I wanted to try reusable sanitary products. Had I heard or read about them? Yes, years ago! Was I put off by it? I guess so but nothing really phases me anymore especially after having three kids! I started off by getting myself a menstrual cup and I tried it out for 2 cycles. It definitely takes some getting used to especially making the switch from tampons but I felt like I needed extra protection and this is why I decided to try the reusable cloth sanitary towels from Cheeky Wipes.
I received a Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pad Kit which includes a double zip wet bag, 1 pantyliner, 3 x day pads and 1 night pad. The ones I have are made of bamboo on the top layer and the outside layer is a super soft patterned minky material.
The pads are so easy to use, they have poppers (kind of like the ones you have on bedsheets and baby grows). So you simply have to wrap them around your underwear and button it up. Once you’ve used them you just pop them in the washing machine like you would with your clothes and they come out looking brand new again.
They are WAYYY more comfortable to wear than your regular plastic pads. Super soft, absorbent, stay in place really well and will last me for years. If I’m in a public place, no one will be able to hear the familiar rustle of tampons and pad wrappers so they are very discrete too! Honestly if you can make that time of the month more comfortable for yourself then you are onto a winner.
They are brilliant value for money as they can be used again and again. The starter kit is £27.50, the full kit is £54.95 and these will last you for years. I love that you can choose from lots of different patterns and prints so you can have a little collection of them. (Not that anyone can see them when they are in use). When you make your order you can choose between the bamboo and charcoal material which are both extra absorbent. If you prefer cotton they also have a whole range of cotton fabric pads available on their website too!
To get them nice and clean again you need to soak them in cold water until they go in the wash and don’t put the temp up any higher than 20-30 degrees as warm washing can set in blood stains and damage your pads in the long run. You shouldn’t use fabric conditioner as it can ruin the absorbency of your pads and they should be dried naturally. Now that I’ve tried them I’m kicking myself that I’d not done this years ago. I could have saved on a lot of money, had more comfort and produced less waste to go to landfill. Will you be trying reusable sanitary products too? I’m sure you’ll be a convert just like me.

I’ve never tried reusable cloth sanitary pads, but I do really want to try them as I find the adhesive on normal pads really irritating and I get a rash so I think these would be a lot better! Thank you for the tips on how to wash them, as that was something I was worried about xo
